Reco - The first ballpoint pen to be awarded the eco label Blue Angel
Now it is official: Schneider has received the Blue Angel again. For the first time a ballpoint pen has succeeded in being awarded with the eco label Blue Angel. Schneider is particularly proud of this, because the Blue Angel regulations pose a special challenge for ballpoint pens.
“Reco” is the name of the new refillable retractable ballpoint pen, which has a body made of 92% recycled material. To meet the high requirements of the Blue Angel, Schneider has developed a new ink paste.
The Reco is available in three different barrel colours: white, black and dark blue. The modern and dynamic design makes it a real highlight with its matte satin surface. Reco is manufactured in Southern Germany in accordance with the criteria of the Blue Angel in an environmentally friendly and resource-saving manner. The proportion of recycled material has been confirmed by an independent certification body. The source of the raw material, and thus the 100% use of post-consumer recycling material, has been verified by the European certification company EuCertPlast. „The underlying aim of EuCertPlast is encouraging an environmentally friendly plastics recycling process by standarizing it. The particular focus of the scheme is on the traceability of plastic materials in the supply chain, throughout the recycling process and the recycled content quality in the end-product..“ (Source: https://www.eucertplast.eu/; 23.01.2020)
The stable, fibre-reinforced and break-resistant clip rounds off the dynamic appearance and is designed for a long service life. The Reco is equipped with the large capacity refill Eco 725 in line width M and can be refilled as often as you wish. The refill is available in the writing colours black or blue. The color of the ink can be easily recognized at the push button of the pen. In addition, the ink of the Eco 725 refill is indelible in accordance with ISO 12757-2. Schneider also uses recycled plastic for the refill tube. The Eco 725 is suitable as a refill for the Reco as well as for many other writing instruments in G2 format and is the world's first refill made of recycled material.
In addition to its sustainable properties, the Reco also stands out for its writing quality, ensuring a clean handwriting through the pleasantly light and constant ink flow.
The Blue Angel is Germany's oldest and best-known eco-label and enjoys the highest acceptance among public authorities, commercial decision-makers and private consumers. For more than 40 years it has served as an orientation for sustainable purchasing and guarantees that the products meet high standards of environmental, health and performance characteristics. The Federal Environment Agency has developed the appropriate requirements and the criteria for various product groups. These always consider the entire life cycle of the products.
The criteria for writing instruments were published in January 2016. Schneider was the first company to fulfil the requirements for the Blue Angel for writing instruments. It was then achieved with a refillable rollerball called “Breeze” made of recycled material. Next came fineliners, fibre-tip pens and highlighters“Link-It” and “Line-Up”. As a renowned brand for ballpoint pens and refills, the company is now particularly proud that the first ballpoint pen to be awarded the Blue Angel was also made by Schneider. Of eight writing instruments awarded the Blue Angel, seven models are from Schneider
